Can we access files in N5200 / 1U4500 via USB port directly?

NO! The data in NAS can't be directly access via Target USB port.

Target USB could be connect to PC via USB port directly just like a removable disk. The usage is the same with USB flash.

After you created a RAID, you may use the remaining space to be Target USB usage, that means Target USB is another partition on RAID, and the data in NAS is not related to Target USB.

The NAS eSATA which is host port, it only available for connect with external SATA drive, it cannot connect to the PC eSATA port.

[N5200] Reset NAS IP and admin password

N5200 LCD will display WAN and LAN IP addresses; however, incase NAS admin wants to reset the networking defaults, follow the steps below.

  1. Once the NAS boots up and get ready, LCD will rotate system information: Date & Time => WAN IP => LAN IP => RAID Status => System Fan Status => Date & Time.
  • At this moment, press and hold the reset button at front panel for 5 seconds.
  • The NAS will beep, automatically restart itself, and then load networking defaults.
    • Default IP:
      • 192.168.1.100 for WAN interface
      • 192.168.2.100 or 192.168.2.254 for LAN interface
    • HTTP port: 80
    • HTTPS port: 443
    • Default admin password: admin
    • Jumbo Frame support: disabled
    Note: Reset button doesn't work on old firmware v100.00.2a and v1.00.01.3

    Map a network drive in Mac OS X

    Once you have successfully created the RAID on N5200, follow the steps below to map network drive.

    1. Create a user john. [Admin Web GUI : Accounts / Users / Add / john]
    2. Create a share folder on N5200 such as Picture. [Admin Web GUI : Storage / Folder / Add / Picture]
    3. Set the folder ACL let user john become writable to folder Picture. [Admin Web GUI : Storage / Folder / Picture / ACL / Submit john into writable column]
    4. Find the share folder of N5200 by Finder. [Mac OS X : Network / Select the Group N5200 belongs to / Select N5200 / Click on Connect button]
    5. Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to. [Picture]
    6. Click on Authenticate button. [Authenticate]
    7. Fill in the workgroup, name, and password. Then check "Remember this password in my keychain" and OK.
    8. Folder Picture will be listed in Finder as an icon.

    1. Double click the NIS icon on system tray, and then configure the Personal Firewall.
    2. On Programs page, find the SetupWizard.exe and change its permission to "Permit All". If it's not in the program list, use Add or Program Scan button to find it.
    3. On Networking page, manually add N5200 IP address, say 192.168.1.100, to the Trusted list.
     
    Note: Thecus Setup Wizard uses ports 11000 and 11001 to discover and communicate with the NAS. Please make sure the ports are not blocked by software or hardware firewalls.

    [N4100PRO] 將您的 N4100PRO 還原至出廠預設值(USB工具)

    用USB工具只會將系統回復至出廠預設值，但不會影響到儲存在NAS中的資料。此動作將會使所有NAS上的帳號密碼與網路相關設定回到出廠設定。必須手動重新建立使用者帳號及權限。

    用USB回復出廠預設值的步驟如下:

    請下載附件USB工具:

    1. 請準備一支空的USB隨身碟, 格式需為 FAT / FAT32。
    2. 請下載附件的檔案，將檔案解壓縮後會有 [factory_test.sh] & [usb_reset_default] 2個檔案。
    3. 將這兩個檔案複製至USB隨身碟。
    4. 將NAS關機。(將硬碟移出 NAS)
    5. 將USB隨身碟插入N4100PRO 的 USB Port，然後再將 N4100PRO 開機。
    6. 當回復出廠預設值動作完成之後，NAS會自動關機。
    7. 請將USB隨身碟移除，再將NAS開機即可。


    請注意： 執行此程序後, 系統不會清除儲存在陣列中的資料，但是會將設定回復到系統預設值。      

    Admin password → admin
    LAN 1 IP address → 192.168.1.100
    LAN 1 IP Gateway → 192.168.1.1
    LAN 1 Jumbo Frame Support → Off
    LAN 2 IP → 192.168.2.254
    LAN 2 Jumbo Frame Support → Off

    Please follow the next steps to reset N4100PRO to factory default,

    The usb tool can help you to Reset Default of your NAS, and you may need a clean usb HDD to do it. This will load the factory defaults but won't affect the data stored on the NAS, however, you will have to re-create users account.

    Please download USB Tool attached.


    1. Arrange an empty USB driver(fat/fat32 format).
    2. Unzip file to USB root folder and will have following 2 files: [factory_test.sh] & [usb_reset_default]
    3. Power off NAS (remove HDD).
    4. Plug USB into NAS and power up.
    5. Since process completed and NAS going to power off automatically.
    6. Remove USB and reboot.

    The NAS will load factory default settings

    Admin password → admin
    LAN 1 IP address → 192.168.1.100
    LAN 1 IP Gateway → 192.168.1.1
    LAN 1 Jumbo Frame Support → Off
    LAN 2 IP → 192.168.2.254
    LAN 2 Jumbo Frame Support → Off
    HTTP Port → 80
    HTTPS port → 443

    [N0204 / N2200] ROM file not found

    When initiate the NAS and RAID the first time, Thecus Smart Utility will do the following steps.

        1) Initiate the RAID
        2) Upload the NAS firmware onto the RAID
        The NAS firmware file is placed in client computer while installing Smart Utility, such as:
            C:\Program Files\Thecus\Thecus Smart Utility\firmware_N0204
            C:\Program Files\Thecus\Thecus Smart Utility\firmware_N2200

    In case you see "ROM file not found", please check if above folder includes correct firmware file and with correct file name. You may also download the latest version of Thecus Smart Utility that include the ROM file.

    當第一次初始化NAS及磁碟陣列時，Thecus Smart Utility 會進行以下步驟：

        1) 初始化磁碟陣列
        2) 將NAS韌體上傳至磁碟陣列

    Please try the following steps to reset to factory default from LCM.

    Loading factory defaults won't affect the data stored inside the NAS, but you will have to reconfigure network settings, administrator password, user/groups, language setting, system notification setting, and time zone setting etc….

       1. Press [←┘] button, you will see LCD shows "Enter Password"
       2. Press [←┘] button for 4 times, you will see the LCD shows "0000" and then display
          Setup Menu [5/1]
          WAN Setting
          
          * If you have changed the default password "0000", you may enter the correct password here.
          
       3. Press [▼] button for 2 times, you will see the LCD shows
          Setup Menu [5/4]
          Reset to Default
       4. Press [←┘] button to enter "Reset to Default" menu.
       4. Press [▼] button to choose "Yes"
       5. Press [←┘] button to confirm the action.

    After above, the WAN IP will back to default IP 192.168.1.100, and the admin's password will back to default "admin". Please tring the "Thecus Setup Wizard" application to discove the NAS and doing the IP setting.

    如何透過 LCM 來 reset to factory default?

    1. 按下 Enter (←┘) 鍵, 並看到LCD 顯示 "Enter Password" 。

    2. 此時, 按 Enter (←┘) 鍵 4 次, 將顯示密碼 "0000"，你將會看到 LCD 顯示訊息如下：
       Setup Menu [5/1]
       WAN Setting

      *若您曾變動過預設密碼 "0000"，您必須在此處輸入正確的密碼。

    3. 使用 Up (▲), Down (▼) 鍵來選擇你想要的，當看到 LCD 顯示訊息如下：
       Setup Menu [5/4]
       Reset to Default

    4. 看到 "Reset to Default"， 按下 Enter (←┘) 鍵，進入選單後，透過 Up (▲)，Down (▼) 鍵來選擇  Yes 或 No。 選擇 "Yes" 並按下 Enter (←┘) 鍵，系統即會回復出廠預設值並重新開機。

    預設值:

    WAN IP: 192.168.1.100
    LAN IP: 192.168.2.254
    管理者介面密碼: admin

    請注意: 回復原廠預設值會清除NAS上所有設置，並不會影響NAS上原有的資料或是 RAID 組態，但客戶必須重新設置設定如 IP、使用者帳號、ACL 權限等。

    "Folder Quota" does not function in firmware 5.xx.xx

    Since Thecus OS5 X32 firmware 5.xx.xx, EXT4 / EXT3 / XFS does support "User Quota" and no more support to "Folder Quota", if user need the function of "Folder Quota", user have need to use ZFS(OS5 X32) or BTRFS (OS5 X64) as file system.

     

    If user have EXT3 with folder quota setup, and upgraded to OS5 X32 firmware v5.xx.xx from firmware v3.xx.xx,  user have to reset to factory default to clean the setting.

    Why performance doesn't improve under Link Aggregation mode?

    Due network communication protocol limited, the link aggregation have advantage for multiple client trans data during heavy loading period, thus we can’t get perfromance advantage via single client.

    How downgrade brand new empty N5810 from OS7 to OS5 via USB

     

    Please try following steps to re-flash the USB DOM back to N5810:

    1. Please download the attached USB tool "OS7_Upgrade_FW_v0.1.zip" or

    2. Please unzip the downloaded file. There should be a folder called "OS7_Upgrade_FW_v0.1.zip".

    There would be sub-folder "gofactory".

    3. Please download firmware and MD5 file for firmware from the links below:

    6. Power off NAS

    7. Plug USB drive into NAS black USB2.0 port as possible.

    8. Power on NAS

    9. It will start re-flashing DOM process automatically.

    10. Once the process is done, NAS will be powered off automatically.

    11. Remove USB drive from NAS

    How to enable HDD SMART
    1. Generally HDD default the SMART function enabled, but in some case this function would disabled on unknown user or reason.
    2. In order to get correct HDD health status from HDD, please try from following path to enable HDD SMART function.
    3. This patch executed and no need to reboot.
    4. If don't know your NAS suit for which please refer to following FAQ, or try on each patch until system allow to execute.
